Why Not Let the Tooth Fairy Help Your Child’s Healthy Smile?

Posted .

The Tooth Fairly has been making children smile for decades, along with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. But unlike Santa and the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy visits children all year round, and since your child loses up to 20 baby teeth before their permanent teeth come in, that’s a lot of visits! You can use these visits to impress upon your child the importance of oral health.

Today, we dentist often use the idea of the Tooth Fairy to help your child’s budding awareness about the importance of oral health. The Tooth Fairy promotes this awareness with rewards for a toothy treasure, especially when you suggest that the Tooth Fairy values a healthy tooth higher than a decaying specimen, and offering a bigger reward for a nicer tooth. You can even leave a note from the Tooth Fairy with a reward, praising your child’s good dental habits and encouraging your child to keep up the good work.

To help your child start developing a healthy foundation, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) advises parents to bring in their child by their first birthday, or within six months after their first tooth comes in. You can expect your child’s teeth to begin erupting typically around six months of age.

At our practice in Conroe, Texas, we invite parents to enlist the aid of the Tooth Fairy to inspire your child to better care for their smile throughout the year. Along with good dental hygiene habits and professional cleanings and checkups, the Tooth Fairy can help create smile awareness in your child.
